Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Pick a Dish processes information when you scan a menu or analyze a dish.

Effective: July 28, 2026

Important: Pick a Dish is an informational decision-support tool. It cannot confirm hidden ingredients, nutrition values, preparation methods, or cross-contact.

Information we process

  • An automatically created anonymous Firebase account identifier. The app does not require your name, email address, or a visible sign-in.
  • Your selected goals, dietary preferences, allergens and intolerances, avoided foods, and optional age, calorie, and protein targets.
  • Menu or dish photos you select, or menu text recognized on your device, when you request an analysis.
  • Generated analysis results, confidence information, warnings, free-use allowance, and subscription entitlement.
  • Technical information needed for service security and reliability, such as request timing, error information, IP address, and app or device signals processed by our infrastructure providers.
  • Information you choose to include when contacting support.

How analysis works

For readable menu photos, Pick a Dish may recognize text on your device and send that text instead of the full image. When text recognition is not reliable, selected menu images are resized and sent for analysis. Dish analysis requires the selected dish image.

The requested input and relevant profile choices pass through our Firebase backend to Google Gemini to generate the result. They are sent without your name or contact details, but are associated with an anonymous app session for access control and usage limits.

Why we use information

  • To provide menu and dish analysis tailored to your selected preferences.
  • To identify possible allergen concerns and clearly communicate uncertainty.
  • To provide history, favorites, free-use allowance, and Pro access.
  • To prevent misuse, protect the service, troubleshoot errors, and comply with legal obligations.
  • To respond when you contact support.

Where information is stored

Your profile, history, favorites, and small photo thumbnails are stored locally on your device. The backend stores structured analysis results, usage records, and entitlement status under your anonymous Firebase identifier.

Pick a Dish does not intentionally store full-resolution menu or dish photos as permanent server records. Analysis inputs are transmitted only to complete the analysis you requested.

Service providers

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud provide anonymous authentication, app protection, cloud functions, and structured data storage.
  • Google Gemini processes submitted images or recognized menu text and relevant profile choices to generate an analysis.
  • Apple processes App Store downloads, purchases, subscriptions, and refunds. Pick a Dish does not receive your payment-card details.

We do not sell personal information and the current app does not use third-party advertising trackers.

Retention and deletion

Local profile data, history, favorites, and thumbnails remain on your device until you delete them through the app or remove the app. Structured backend analysis, usage, and entitlement records remain associated with the anonymous account until you use Delete account and all data in Profile, or until we remove them when they are no longer needed to provide the service.

The in-app deletion action removes the anonymous Firebase account and its associated server records, together with local profile data, history, favorites, and thumbnails. Security logs and support correspondence may be retained for a limited period when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, or resolving a request.

Your choices and rights

You can edit your profile choices at any time, control photo access in iOS Settings, and delete the account and associated data from Profile. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, object to, restrict, or request deletion of personal information.

To exercise a right or ask a privacy question, contact dilhan@focusmindservices.co.uk. We may need enough information to identify the relevant support request or anonymous account.

International processing and security

Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network connections, restricted backend access, anonymous authentication, and protected API credentials. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Pick a Dish is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect names or contact details from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through support, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated when changes are published. Material changes may also be communicated in the app.
